Field service and trades contractors
Our techs are hard on equipment. How do you handle that?
Tablets in work trucks get dropped, cooked in a cab in August, and handled with dirty hands. Managing them like office laptops guarantees a bad outcome and a lot of pointless frustration for everyone.
What actually works: rugged cases rather than the cheapest available, devices enrolled in management so a replacement can be handed over ready to work instead of consuming an afternoon, one or two spares staged so a broken tablet is a five minute swap at the shop, and choosing hardware for durability at purchase time rather than for price.
We also track failures by device and by technician. Not to get anyone in trouble, but because a pattern nearly always means the wrong hardware for the job rather than carelessness, and that is a purchasing decision, not a discipline problem.
