Dental practices
Do you work with dental practices?
A dental practice has three characteristics that change how it has to be supported. You are a HIPAA covered entity, which makes your IT provider a business associate with legal obligations rather than just a vendor. Your imaging generates far more data than a typical small business, and it is clinical data you cannot lose. And your revenue is measured in chair time, so an outage during business hours is not an inconvenience, it is production that never happens.
That shapes the work. Operatory computers get specified for a clinical environment rather than an office. Imaging storage and backup get sized against how fast your images are actually growing. Maintenance happens outside patient hours, without exception. And compliance evidence gets maintained continuously rather than assembled when somebody asks.
Ask any provider whether they will sign a Business Associate Agreement and which practice management systems they have actually worked on. Those two answers separate the field quickly.
