Do I need a managed IT provider, or just someone to call when things break?

Short answerIf a day of downtime would hurt, you need managed. If it would just be annoying, hourly may be fine.

The honest test is what happens if your systems are unavailable tomorrow morning. If your staff cannot work, you cannot bill, or patients and customers are affected, then reactive support is a gamble you are taking every day.

Also consider whether anyone is handling security. Under an hourly arrangement, nobody is watching for a compromised mailbox. That gap is where most expensive incidents start.
