The questions people hesitate to ask
What will still be on our plate that we are hoping will not be?
Short answerDecisions, budget, and telling us when the business changes. Everything else should genuinely leave your plate.
Worth answering honestly up front, because the alternative is you discovering it in month three.
Still yours:
- Decisions about money and priorities. We recommend and sequence, but it is your business.
- Telling us when something changes: a new hire, a new location, a new software vendor, another crew.
- Approving access. We are not granting someone permissions because they asked us nicely.
- Choices about your own line of business software: which platform, which modules, which version.
Should leave your plate completely: patching, monitoring, backups and whether they actually work, security, sitting on hold with vendors, new hire setup, hardware planning, and being the person your staff comes to when something breaks.
If you are still doing anything in that second list six months in, we have not done our job, and you should say so out loud.
